@M.L.Diaz

I’m so happy to announce that I’ve accepted the tenure-track position at the University of Central Oklahoma! I’m officially an Assistant Professor of Drawing and Printmaking!

Thank you to everyone that has helped me get here, now
YET ANOTHER BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!

Today is my birthday 🤗

This was my demonstration of a drypoint on plexiglass for my printmaking class. Already having a blast teaching printmaking.
Newest print, the last I’ll print in Tampa (for now). The copper plates are tucked away until I get to Oklahoma.
Cleaning out the art storage unit (AKA below the guest bed). It is fun finding little unfinished stuff like this.
Pretty excited about this little etching of a baby.

In 2017 I took my first and only etching class. By the end of the semester I had learned a whole bunch of techniques and made a small series of etchings that were well received (this is a detail from one). At the time I was in my first year of grad s
Skeletons all day every day right now. This was actually from a demonstration I did for my drawing 2 class this past semester. Now I’m recycling it into a drawing for an etching.

Working on etchings at Labyrinth (@labyrinth.tampa)! Im pretty rusty at printing right now and these plates need some more work, but this skeleton is certainly exciting.

I’ve been wanting a creepy skeleton tattoo for some time now, so big thanks to my friend @spooky.pookie for this awesome tattoo! She was working from a drawing I did awhile back and I really like what she able to do with it 👍
I’ve stopped painting temporarily to focus on generating imagery. Simple materials, no rules. Here’s a recent one I like from my drawing book.

I’m not sure whether my favorite part of teaching is being able to educate and enrich other peoples lives, helping them reach their dreams and become better people, or if it’s the free model.

Nothing gets the creative juices flowing like a lot of little compositions.

I’ve been making work this whole time, just been grinding through the process of trying to develop something new.

Here’s a small study from this whole cycle of paintings of exercises and stretches. I learned a lot about painting from do
Small study for a new one. Yes, that’s what you think it is. I think @larrymadrigal has had some influence on me.
With everything going on, including this weekend’s tornado hit, I’ve been staying in the studio a lot. The circumstances are bad but Natalia and I are making the best of it. We have a good routine going, working and exercising from home.
This canvas has been with me for months now. It started as a drawing of this pose but went through countless changes. At one point is was even a bright green self portrait. I kept returning to this pose, perhaps to find some stability (which is essen

The past 6-8 months in the studio have been hard. There was a lot of work that will never see the light of day. The only way through is to keep working. Here’s a recent work that’s heading in a good direction. .
